This book Studies Enric Prat de la Riba's figure from a doble point of view. On the one hand, it offers an interpretation of how Catalan historiography from the last four decades has thought about Catalonia's Mancomunitat's First President and the Catalanist movement at the end of the 19th century and the begining of the 20th century paying attention to those moments when debates overwhelmed strictly historiographic frames and spread in the political agenda. On the other hand, it studies European political and cultural context in which Prat de la Riba was trained, from a comparative analysis not only of the crisis of European political liberalism at the end of the 19th century but also of the reorganization of politics lived by European countries. So, this book analyzes Prat de la Riba's intellectual formation and the reception of his government work, which is crucial in order to understand one of the core themes in the interpretation of the contemporary history of Catalonia and an important group of its citizenship's self-government wish. In 2006, the book was awarded by Patronat Casa Museu Prat de la Riba the prize to the project "Prat de la Riba i la nacionalitat catalana".
