2007, 410 pp. Història de combat collects scattered works by the historian Josep Termes, made during more than forty years: from the first one, an outline of the labour movement of the 1920s, written for an underground review, to the last one, the prologue of a book on Palestra. In all works it is predominant the political and working class history, the history of the structuring of a Catalan left and of the anarcho-syndicalism, as well as the discussion over what the Catalan identity was and how it was organized during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In some way, as the author says in the introduction, it can be read it as the history of two losers, although it is actually the description of the resistance of the people against the leading classes and the ruling power. All the history built by Termes, or which he has helped to build, is that: an effort for highlighting the Catalan people as a historical agent, its organization and its activities. This book is, then, a collection of synthesis and spreading essays, prologues to books, participations in debates and seminars, transcriptions of conferences, and, finally, interviews in journals that are particularly significant still today. At the same time, Història de combat represents the crowning achievement of Josep Termes' historiographic compromise with the history of Catalonia. |
